Most Common Pet Emergencies
Pets experience mild to serious health problems all the time, and it can be difficult to know which issues constitute a real emergency. Remember that if you are unsure about what to do when your pet is sick or injured, just give us a call! Animal Emergency Care of Braselton specializes in these situations, and someone will always be available to answer your questions.

The Most Common Pet Emergencies in Braselton

- Stomach problems (vomiting or diarrhea) - Most cases of stomach upset resolve themselves within 24 hours. If your dog or cat has diarrhea or is vomiting, discontinue food, and wait it out. If symptoms get worse or persist for more than 24 hours, please contact us. If your pet has chronic medical issues, is lethargic, vomiting blood, or seems to be in pain, don’t wait to call us.

- Trauma - Trauma can be caused by a traffic accident, a fall, or even a fight with another animal. In these situations, we urge you to call us and bring your pet in right away. It is nearly impossible to assess the severity of your pet’s condition without a thorough exam, and some injuries like broken bones or internal bleeding are not readily apparent.

- Heat Stroke - Heat stroke can affect both dogs and cats, but the most common cause is leaving dogs alone in hot cars. Cracking a window does not allow enough heat to escape from the vehicle, and dogs will quickly become overheated. Pets can also experience heat stroke from exercising too much on hot, humid days, or when they are unable to get out of the sun. Cats experience heat stroke less often, but they do sometimes sneak into parked cars, or hot attics, where they are locked inside.

- Stings, bites or allergic reactions - In Georgia, stings and bites can occur at any time of year. If your pet is experiencing swelling, itching, or hives, there’s a good chance that they’ve been bitten. If your pet is showing signs of discomfort or distress, please give us a call.
